Crossing the Pyrenees from the Mediterranean to the Cantabrian Sea isn’t just a journey—it’s a complete experience of riding, culture, and the mountains. It’s one of those routes that you simply have to do once in a lifetime.
Stages of the Trans-Pyrenean Route
Stage 0
Pick up the motorcycles at the Soul Riders facility and travel to the hotel in the Empordà region.
Stage 1: Portlligat – Andorra
The stage begins in Portlligat, offering views of the Costa Brava and Salvador Dalí’s summer home in the town. From Port de la Selva, we’ll climb to the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, which boasts spectacular views of the sea and the monastery. We’ll continue through the vineyards of the Empordà region, passing through the walled town of Peralada, Figueres, and Besalú, with its century-old bridge.
In Sant Joan de les Abadeses, we’ll climb Coll de Jou via a winding concrete road lined with cows, which will lead us to Ribes de Freser.
We’ll cross into France via Puigcerdà and enter Andorra through Pas de la Casa.
Stage 2: Andorra to Panticosa
From Andorra, we re-enter Spain to ride the legendary Port del Cantó, a natural gateway to the most authentic Pyrenees. From Sort, we take the Montcortès road—a little-known yet very special stretch—toward La Pobla de Segur and Pont de Suert, connecting to the N-260 all the way to Aínsa, a key point on the route and a stop for lunch.
In the afternoon, the spotlight is on the spectacular Añisclo Canyon, one of the most scenic roads in the Pyrenees, before climbing toward Fanlo and Broto. The descent through the Cotefablo Pass takes us to Biescas, ending the day in the unique setting of the Panticosa Spa.
Stage 3: Panticosa – Donibane Garazi
A stage entirely through France, entering via the Portalet border crossing and continuing to Laruntz. This marks the start of the Tour de France’s mountain pass extravaganza, featuring climbs such as the Col de Marie Blanche and the Issaux Forest, on a continuous mountainous route along back roads winding through forests and along cliffs. We’ll cross the Irati Forest parallel to the Spanish border, finishing in the Donibane Garazi area.
Stage 4: Donibane Garazi – Elgorriaga
We re-enter Spain via the Alto de Izpegi pass, after a stop at the unique village of Zugarramurdi. Following a series of mountain roads, we reach the coast and pass through Hondarribia and Irún, with a must-see stop at the Higuer Lighthouse, the easternmost point of the Cantabrian Sea.
On the way to our lodging at the Elgorriaga Spa, we conquered two classic mountain passes—the Alto de Jaizkibel and the Alto de Aritxulegi—combining sea, mountains, and technical roads.
Stage 5: Elgorriaga to Canfranc
From Balneario de Elgorriaga, we head south toward the spectacular Alto de Artesiaga and the Eugi Reservoir, surrounded by dense forests and scenic roads. We arrive in Ansó, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, before heading toward Jaca through the spectacular Foz de Biniés.
The day ends at the legendary Canfranc Estación international station, one of Europe’s most impressive railway landmarks.
Stage 6: Canfranc to Vielha
A high-mountain stage featuring the Tour’s most iconic climbs. The day begins with the legendary Col d’Aubisque, continues with the legendary Col du Tourmalet, and includes other major climbs such as the Col de Peyresourde and the Col du Portillon.
The day ends in Vielha, the capital of the Val d’Aran, surrounded by high mountains and offering the perfect setting to cap off an epic day.
Stage 7 Vielha - Barcelona
The final day begins with a ride out of the iconic Port de la Bonaigua, one of the great Pyrenean passes. From here, we begin a gradual descent toward the plains, following more open roads until we reach Barcelona.
A leisurely finish to one of the continent’s greatest motorcycle journeys, with the feeling of having crossed the Pyrenees from coast to coast in true SlowRiding style.
